Two Hearts
I picked up the dated photograph
from the back bedroom shelf.
Two faces greeted me from a distant time.
Two faces that were contented with the
satisfaction of honest work and genuine love.
Two faces that had very little but gave even more.
Two faces that loved me yet why I was never
given a chance to love them I will never know.
Two faces,
Two people,
Two hearts,
which are engraved on my life even from this distant era.
Just like the horizon, one day, we will meet at the break of dawn.
My version of the poem “The Image” by Robert Hass Pg. 199
